RI letterboxing report: Beautiful day of boxing

From: mulbie (mulbie@yahoo.com) | Date: 2003-03-24 13:32:42 UTC
Hi folks. Just wanted to report that The Yachtsman and I, along with
Tweety and Mr. Coon had a glorious day of letterboxing in southern RI
yesterday. Visited The Drew Clan's "Wooden Carousel" series in
Westerly, and found both the Napatree Pt letterbox and the Watch Hill
letterbox in fine shape. Wow was the area busy with people. Little
Narragansett Bay had a gaggle of Brants and a few swans bobbing around
in the choppy water. We also finally found the Great Gathering stamp
(winter 2001) now that the ground is unfrozen. Nobody had visited
since April of 2002! Finally stopped in at the Quonochontaug mystery box.

Also wanted to tell Team Greendragon that we loved their "No _ _ _ _
Sherlock" stamp which all four of us have visited sometime in the last
week. On Saturday The Yachtsman and I also found the two "Meander to
the Marsh" boxes at Touisset marsh in good shape. Altogether
wonderful to be back at letterboxing in the nice spring weather.

It looked like the thickets might be pretty dense in late spring and
summer. This is the time of year that they're not a problem, and no
plovers (or any ropelines) yet. It was really nice after a winter of
frustrations with frozen boulders, snow, etc.

poison ivy around. Nowhere was there a passable path at the end of
the beach. What a disappointment! Then heading back, the tide kept
sweeping up under the ropeline and we had to encroach a few feet into
ploverland. :-( Maybe we should hang with you guys... you seem to
find the one's we've missed...

Oh, my gosh, Mary... you actually got all the way out to the point and found the box?  Betz and I walked the beach (something she *DETESTS*) last spring and couldn't get into the thickets for all the poison ivy around.  Nowhere was there a passable path at the end of the beach.  What a disappointment!  Then heading back, the tide kept sweeping up under the ropeline and we had to encroach a few feet into ploverland.  :-(   Maybe we should hang with you guys...  you seem to find the one's we've missed...
